Japan to fund a GlobalFoundries-run chip fab in New York

GlobalFoundries will run two new chip fabs at its Malta, New York, site under a US-Japan initiative providing up to $21 billion, with Japan providing the investment. GF is majority-owned by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala, and in a separate agreement the US Commerce Department will receive about 4% of its equity.
